If you're one half of a married couple and don't hope to grow old with your mate and be like Lee and
Morty Kaufman...you've got rocks in your head. Because they are the couple that every couple should want to grow old to 'be' like...holding fast to vintage love and a good sense of humor.
Morty and Lee of Valley Stream, NY are both 91 years old...I WAS SHOCKED to find they were
that old. They were married on Valentine's day in 1969 and have been married for 44 years.
Morty said they met when Lee was a young widowed school teacher with her own kids and Morty was a pharmacist and also a young widower with children...One day, Morty had to go in to school to talk to Lee about his son's problem in reading class. They hit it off and in a few days he went back and asked her to dinner and they've lived happily ever after. :-) OH WOW!!!

The director friend paid a visit to the Kaufman home and it didn't take long to see he had the perfect couple for his commercial. HOWEVER...they wanted no part of a television studio or memorizing a script. So the director agreed to have the TV crew come and spend 2 days in their own home just following them around in their normal daily life...and from that 2 days...he put together a 3 minute commercial and a few 30 second commercials filmed in their own home.
They immediately went viral on the internet!
Since the airing of the first commercial in July, they have been interviewed by many and asked about their secret to such a happy union. They have had lots of advice for the rest of us: They say they talk a lot and are open on each of their opinions whether that opinion is positive or negative. Morty says that compromise is the main thing in a relationship and no issue should be important enough to cause a problem between a couple.
The couple is still very social. They eat out a lot and have a special group of friends they go out with on occasion. I couldn't help wondering how old the people in their group of friends would be...nosey me.
Lee says that the secret to a happy marriage is to enjoy all of life's moments regardless of your age. And that she and Morty really enjoy...just being together...even if they're just at home doing nothing.
Lee said she was attracted to Morty because of his sense of humor and his warm smile...which he has to this day. Morty said Lee was just such a delight, he was attracted to her immediately. Lee said that Morty was...and still is...very charming and funny.
Morty said that he thought that one thing that has helped them through the years...was that both of them had very good 1st marriages...before the death of their spouses and they went into their union...looking on a marital relationship as a positive thing.
When asked if they have been able to keep the romantic spark alive after all these years, Morty said "There is nothing racy about our relationship. People's needs vary as they age. And a warm hug or quick kiss and a strong love and appreciation of each other...just means everything"
Friends and family that are close to Morty and Lee...say they are the very same in real life as they are on the commercial.
They were asked if they'd consider doing other commercials. Lee said "Why not? How often does a couple get offered a new career in their 90's?"
If you're good at reading people...you can tell a lot about a couple...just by watching them in public. There is absolutely NO DOUBT...that Morty and Lee have a very close and special...relationship...even in private and even in their 90's...and that's more precious than all the gold in the world.
And then you see these couple's on other commercials...like the AARP Medicare commercial...You know the one...the couple is in the SUV and they have a boat on top of their SUV and she's telling him she thinks they need to look into a new medicare plan...they talk back and forth about it for a minute and he decides it may be a good idea....then at the end of the commercial...they are carrying a boat down a lane and laughing and talking....but you can just tell...there is NO close connection between that couple...and I don't know if THEY are a real couple...or not....But there is NO real connection there that others can sense or feel...and it's that way with many commercials with so called 'married couples'....It IS like they're doing a script and if they ARE an actual couple...their relationship is like so SO many couples as they age....they're just going through the motions...from day to day...on the way to the end of the life line....how very sad.
But with Morty and Lee....you can just feel the love and close connection between them...coming right out of the television...and into our living rooms....
When asked what their daily schedules were like, Morty said "My daily schedule is to adore my wife" aaaaaaaawww

Peace and love from the canyon...I love you all gobs and gobs and thanks so SO much...for stopping by......

I absolutely think this commercial beats out all commercials including super bowl when it comes to connecting with the consume! Instead of thinking outside the box, the director was brilliant in concept in casting this adorable couple because everyone has parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc. that remind us of the Kaufmans!
