Right off the bat ... before I forget...I just want to let you know that tomorrow I'm going to be telling about a reader that messaged me while I was flat on my back...and she was in search of a way to heal her own body. She was suffering from
Well...I know we've done several blogs lately where we just talked about this and that. But I'm getting so many questions lately and I always think if one is wanting to know a specific thing...there are probably others out there that would like to know the very same thing. So today I'm going to share some fool proof home remedies with you and some simple skin healing and pampering things you can do at home for just pennies to help that winter skin that most of us are probably already being bothered with.MAGIC LOTIONLet's start with the magic lotion and I've given this recipe before. I LOVE the Royal Bee Skin Healing Cream...but I know there are probably some out there that can't afford it at $30 a jar. BUT DID YOU KNOW...you can make something 'almost as good' for just $3 with 3 ingredients you get from the Dollar General Store?
YUP!!! Sure can.
And here's all you need:
1 Jar Vaseline
1 Jar Vaseline
1 Bottle Baby Lotion (and it's that flat pink bottle...generic is fine)
1 Jar Vitamin E Cream
1 paper plate .. or you can use any dish
1 plastic fork or regular fork
(I use a paper plate and plastic fork so I can throw them away after I mix this)
Now the amount of each ingredient in this mixture...like all my recipes...will depend on how much you're making...but let's assume you're going to make about 1 cup to be stored in a little empty/clean peanut butter jar :-)
So for about a cup...you would need 1 tbsp. of Vaseline...and about 1/2 cup of Vit E cream and 1/2 cup baby lotion...put them all in the middle of your paper plate or dish and just mash to mix thoroughly with your fork.
THIS IS probably better than just about any cream you can buy on the market for any amount of money and it's only going to cost you pennies.
I've made SO SO many big batches of this stuff and given it away. So if you'd like to make some of this up to put in your gift bags at Christmas...just buy some containers...or WE buy the North Star little individual ice cream cups at Big Johns...and I wash and dry and save those cups and lids and I have given hundreds of those things away with this cream in it.
You can either paint the little cardboard lid...or cut out scrapbook paper the right size and glue that on the lid to make it look nice....tie a little bow just around the rim...and WALLA....perfect gift that's going to get you RAVES. I CANNOT TELL YOU how many people have called me after I've put this in gift bags...just for the recipe so they can make more....so now....I just include the recipe on a little tag that ties into the bow.
If you put this on after your shower or bath...you will not believe what it will do for your skin. And if you have dry calloused and crusted feet or toes or elbows....this will make them baby soft over night. On your feet...it's best to put it on heavy and put socks on ... and I use cotton gloves when I put this on my hands for over night....I'm all dressed up in white cotton gloves and no place to go some winter nights....but I'm dressed for Mr Sandman in my 1950's Sunday best :-)
I've given this recipe several times before....and one friend posted after making some and using it that her husband even commented on her face and asked her what she had done differently.
Another things that is SO SO good for really dry feet...is plain old Vick's Vapo Rub...After your shower or bath...or you can even just soak your feet in a little plastic tub. And put a good lathering of Vick's all over your feet and around your heels and toe nails and then put on heavy socks and my goodness....you feet will be so soft in the morning they almost slide right off your ankle. :8)
Vick's Vapo Rub is also good for a headache...just rub some over your eye brows and maybe a little right in front of your ears...or around the back of your head at your hairline....just depends on what kind of headache you have....where it's hurting. Kim uses this all the time for headaches and it work's wonders....
You know....come to think of it....just think what would happen if you mixed a little Vick's in your Magic Lotion above....especially if you're just going to be around home and don't mind the smell....GOODNESS...Glamour would be after you to do a cover for their magazine.
And speaking of face. That magic lotion above...for $3 can only be beat by the Royal Bee Skin Healing Cream for $30. But we like to do our own facials here in the canyon and even the geezer will let me do a facial on him now and then. Now he's not 'into' facials...but he's just a good sport and I love doing facials. And here's the perfect...at home facial...and instead of costing you $50 at a spa...will cost you.......OH GADS...WAIT!!!! ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? It will cost you... NOTHING...at home!
Take about a tsp of baking soda and put it in a small bowl...add just a tad of really warm water. I like to use pretty hot water. Dip a wash cloth in the baking soda/water and just start making circular motions on your face...cover the whole face. Don't scrub too hard...the baking soda and warm water will do the work for you.
Now "I" rinse good and do this one more time...then rinse and rinse and rinse...to be sure you get it all off. Then go to a mirror and see how fresh and rosy your face looks....NOW if you want to work some REAL magic....go to the frig and take out 1 egg. Crack that egg and just dip your fingers in the shell and start putting the egg white all over your face...you can use the yolk too if you want to break it and use it...there is priceless collagen in that egg and it's going to work MIRACLES on your wrinkles. Let the egg dry for about 10 minutes if you have time....But I often do this just before we go out the door and only give it 2-3 minutes....But I don't wear foundation...so it's easy to do this at the last minute. The 'lift' will last you about 6-8 hours if you're not out in a strong wind.
And speaking of that egg white ... many of us have droopy eye lids....I was considering surgery because my right eye is SO droopy...but then a lady was on KFVS TV from Cape Girardeau and she had had it done and couldn't close her eyes...so I decided I'd just roll with the punches. Sometimes I'll be playing the piano at church and my right eye will get so droopy I'll have to put my head down between songs and do that little quick 'massage' (a back and forth frenzied motion) over the right eye brow just to the left on that lazy muscle....it opens it back up for about 5 more minutes :-) Oh goodness....life is tough and then we die....hahahahaha
But I read a few weeks ago that you could put a very VERY light film of egg white on your droopy eye lid and let it go even in the crease just a tad and hold your eye open and fan that eye so the egg white dries fast...after it dries it will help hold your eye open for several hours. I've done that several times and it works....but I stay so busy...I don't think to do it very often...but it DOES work for a temporary fix. Now you have to use JUST A TINY TAD of egg white....and then fan it dry without closing your eye before it dries completely.
DID YOU KNOW...that you can cut a lemon in slices or quarters or just whatever size you want and hold the inside of that freshly cut lemon to your age spots and they will disappear in one day if you do it about 3 times a day? Fresh lemon will also close pores.....and so will apple cider vinegar...just put a bit of apple cider vinegar on a paper towel or whatever and put it on your face...leave for about 2 minutes and rinse well.....
Castor oil will thicken your eye lashes...aloe vera juice will lengthen them and Vitamin E will make them grow faster. Now I NEED to do these things...because I'm getting those 67 year old thinned eye lashes....but I just haven't tried it yet. HOWEVER...I have talked to people who have done this and they say if done daily...you will see a difference in 3-4 weeks....
Now many of us are beginning to haul in firewood to heat our homes and it's SPLINTER TIME!
To take out a splinter that doesn't want to budge...dip a little piece of bacon fat in turpentine and tape it over the splinter...you can use a bandaid or any kind of tape. Within 8 hours...your stubborn splinter will be out. You can also use PRID...and that comes in a little orange tin from Walmart for about $4...in the aisle with the Neosporin and bandaids...Prid will also take a splinter out in about 8 hours....AND if you get those busted places on the ends of your fingers...PRID will also heal those over night...just put a dab on your busted fingertips and rub it in good...put another dab on and put a bandaid over that...
Weeelll it's TURKEY WEEK!!! And I'm already getting ready. I have chores for every day this week...right up to Thanksgiving...I started yesterday making our home made ice cubes...YUP...only the very best for MY family...no store bought ice for THIS goofy gander bunch!
I just fill my 4 trays up...freeze them...and dump them in my big ice cube tub in the freezer. Refill trays and do that over and over.
By Thursday...I'll have plenty if you need a little and the stores are all closed :-)
And speaking of ice cube trays....I'm seeing and hearing reports that before long ice cube trays are going to be hard to find...because so many people BUY ice or have a frig with an ice maker...So I need to stock up on ice cube trays, I guess. Of course we could always fill gallon bags with water and way-lay that with a hammer if bad were to come to worse. That's the way I make my crushed ice now! I put cubes in a gallon bag and hammer it into crushed ice. Geezer is always saying "WHY don't you go buy you an ICE crusher as much as you love crushed ICE?" Weeeeeeeeeeelll I've been using this same old $2 hammer that I bought at a flea market for about 47 years and I always have ice cubes and gallon bags...and I have a friend who's on her 3rd crushed ice maker and they all 3 cost a fortune....so who's the sharpest crayon in THIS crayon box?
If you live close and your ice crusher goes bad and you're desperate for crushed ice...just run on out here...I've ALWAYS got a big tub of homemade crushed ice....AND it's well water crushed ice...the best you'll find anywhere....
We're having turkey and dressing and all the trimmings this Thursday...I'm going to try that Pumpkin Cheese Cake Pie Wednesday...can't WAIT...I found the recipe on pinterest. But we'll also have a regular pumpkin pie and this year I'm making a huge Pineapple Upside Down Cake to add to my desserts...and I hope to get some dishpan cookies made up...we'll see.
I've gotta get going this morning....I have tons to do and I'm sure you do too. Don't forget tomorrow and the story of the reader/friend who healed herself of migraines and fibromyalgia in 40 days...following a simple healthy program. It's a miraculous story!
And listen...one more thing...I saw on my blog website page this morning ... an ad for the Nutri Bullet...Now adsense puts those ads on there in exchange for letting me use blogger for free...But I've been thinking about buying us a Nutri Bullet...I've seen the infomercials and it looks like it would be so SO much faster than our Champion juicer and it would make it so much easier to juice multiple times a day. But I'm wondering if the juice is kind of 'gritty' because you don't just 'juice'...you emulsify the whole veggie....SO if any of you have a Nutra Bullet...would you please message me or just post and let me know how you like the juice from it. The Nutri Bullet is only $99 and would be a life saver for those of us wanting to juice....IF the juice was good.....so please let me know....ok?
