Let's Talk...

Let's be honest...there are two sides to most of us.  There is me and if you all were being totally honest...most of you would have to say there are two sides to you too.

One side of me is this warm and fuzzy quiet/reclusive/homebody foo fooing little love bug with a very strong hopeless romantic gene...and the other side is this outspoken/nosey/control freak of a little gigger that is out of one mess and into another.

Now I LOVE watching television in the evenings
with the geezer ...it's our quiet/restful time and we gab and read and watch tv together and it's heavenly...and I'd especially love the tv watching part if there was something on worth watching.

SO I was SO SO excited...when about 2-3 years ago a new program came on called "Person of Interest".  I told the geezer..."Now this is a little complicated to me...but once I get the hang of what's going on...I think I'm going to LOVE this program.  I loved Harold and Reese and Fusco and Carter and I just thought they made a perfect team.

Then the last few months...they have thrown in these 2 black haired bimbo's with a snarly attitude that just gave the whole show a kind of dark twist and it just ruined it for me.  I just did not like those women...they didn't fit the show and we didn't need them.  I soon lost interest in the show in spite of the fact that geezer kept watching it.

Last week he told me..."You'd better get back in the groove of this show because things are popping and you're going to miss something big"  So last week I kept my mind tuned in to the show and paid close attention and I was sooooo excited to see what was going to happen THIS week...but low and behold what did those crazy creators doooooooooooo?  THEY KILLED OFF CARTER!!!!!!!! I WAS LIVID and went right to the laptop to see just why in the world they thought such a murder was needed.
I was even more livid when I started reading that the creators of the show were 2 young and arrogant 30 something guys and they said they wanted their show to have a unique twist.  AND they said the fans could learn to live with their ideas or not....they were not that concerned.  WHAT?   WE are what keeps the show on the AIR....
They said they wanted their show to be like in real life and in real life everybody dies sooner or later.  And it is unrealistic to have a show where the stars can take a bullet week after week and come out of it smiling.....I WANTED TO JUMP RIGHT IN THAT LAPTOP AND SLAP THEIR SASSY LITTLE FACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We LIVE the ups and downs and losses of 'real life'....when we watch tv...we want FAIRY TALES.....

They said that when they signed people on FOR the show...they told each one...DO NOT buy a house...rent an apartment...because on this show...everybody is going to die sooner or later....I was just so livid reading their thoughts and seeing their attitudes.

But the really shocking thing they said was that 'the kiss' between Reese and Carter was not in the script...that Reese just kissed her without warning and it shocked even Carter.  These creators said when they heard about the unscripted kiss....they were livid because they did NOT allow anything in the show that they did not ok themselves ahead of time....but they were encouraged to watch it on tape by the producer and director and when they saw it...they realized that it was natural and needed at that time...so they decided to leave it in.  Well how kind of them....

Well....what can we do?  Geezer tells me all the time...."You are NOT here to save the world"....so go figure....

Let me give you an update on the recovery and clean up efforts in Brookport, Illinois.  The little town just 8 miles from us that was ravaged by the deadly tornado on Sunday.

I just cannot get over....the work that a little country church is doing up on the other side of Brookport.  They are cooking breakfast, lunch and supper and feeding about 400 people a day.  I wish I knew how many people GO to that church.  But it's a very small country church and what they have done and are doing is just absolutely amazing.....
People are being asked to make casseroles and desserts and donate to their meals...but still.  I am just amazed.

Things are running fairly smooth...but the mis-communication of information is just unbelievable.  One person will re-post a post they saw 2 days ago when something was needed and then someone else will post and say "NO NO NO DIS-REGARD THAT POST....we are FLOODED with those things...we need THIS"
But the thing IS..."EVERYBODY" is wanting so badly to help and be a part of this recovery effort...and people are just jumping the gun and getting ahead of themselves.  There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians...that's the problem.   EVERYBODY absolutely means well and wants to help and some are donating just hours and hours of their time.

Kim was with Evan taking photo's for 920 WMOK the other day.  And any news media that wanted in Brookport...had to be driven around by a State Trooper.  And they came upon this woman, Autumn Smith.. in her yard right in the middle of the destruction.  Her home had been spared...so she was sitting beside a card table and she had hot coffee and a place for folks to charge their cell phones.  How absolutely thoughtful.

Photo: One of the many acts of kindness witnessed during the past few days...

We noted the following status on Facebook:

"Please share to get the word out to those in Brookport. Autumn Smith who lives at 408w 3rd st., Brookport, IL, 62910 is fine & has set up a coffee stand & cell phone charging station outside at her house."

As we approached, Ms. Smith called out to us and asked us how we were and if we wanted some coffee or needed to charge anything... We thanked her for her offer and let her know that we needed to "return our IL State Officer" to his post.

Upon being told that we saw her status on Facebook, were touched by it and just wanted to get a photo of kindness amidst the chaos, she smiled and replied, "Well Thank You that's nice of you to say but I'm so glad to help if I can! Are y'all sure you don't want some coffee?"

Have hope, friends... there ARE good people out there...

The stories we're hearing of  things people are doing is just amazing.  And then there are the sad stories of total destruction and loss.

Well I'm going to wrap it up for today.  I had so much to talk about this week and then this tornado...but we'll get to it all....

Peace and love from the canyon...I love you all gobs and gobs and thanks so much...for stopping by.
