John F Kennedy Assassination: Where Were You When It Happened?

JFK Assassination:  Where Were You When It Happened?

It was early afternoon, November 22, 1963 and I was in Metropolis Community High School.  I don't remember the exact time or what class I was even in...but our principal came over the loud speaker and said that President Kennedy had been shot.  It wasn't very long and he came back over the speaker and said that President Kennedy had died.

I was just a young and naive little squirt of a thing at the time and I was feeling total confusion.
WHO would shoot the PRESIDENT?  Doesn't everybody KNOW that even if they end up hurting other people....they still couldn't hurt the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?   And NOW he has even DIED from that gun shot.  I was thinking "Boy are THEY going to be in trouble when THEY get caught"  Now remember...I was only about 16 and had led a very reclusive and over protective life and not even been allowed to DATE yet.  So you worldly folks that knew it all at an early age....you probably can't even imagine what a major MAJOR thing this was to me.

Soon our principal announced that school was about to be dismissed due to the President's death.

Mom was there in just a few minutes to pick me up and I can't even remember if "I" called her or if the school called the parents...but I do remember that it was pouring down rain in our little town when school was let out.

As we were pulling away from school and I was so upset and mom was trying to talk to me about what happened...we noticed one of my school teachers...and I can't remember her name either...but she was a little German woman and she was scurrying in the heavy rain...up the street on the sidewalk to her apartment.  Mom asked if I knew her and I said I didn't know her personally but she was a teacher at the school so mom stopped and told her to get in and she'd take her home.

I just remember this little German woman weeping to beat the band as she was running up the sidewalk and as she got in our car she kept saying "tur-bo tur-bo" (terrible) and she cried and cried as we drove her home.

The weekend Kennedy was shot was the very first time I remember around the clock television coverage for anything and we sat as a family glued to the TV as much as we possibly could.   But I hardly budged all weekend. And I was watching on live TV when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald....NOW I'm wondering...did Daddy cancel CHURCH that day?  Because this was mid morning when that happened...I don't know ... I just remember watching and seeing him shot and screaming for daddy and daddy came running.

Many folks think they know the whos and whys and wherefore's of Kennedy's assassination...but I'm just not sure.  I LOVED John and Jackie Kennedy even as a teenager.  I was a hopeless romantic even way back then and I thought they were such a cute and deeply in love couple...Little did I know what John Kennedy was doing when not many people were looking..  :-( and I'd just as soon never have known about his affairs...
But on the assassination...I've always felt Johnson was involved.  He was one of the people recommending he GO to Texas and then guess who got to be President when Kennedy was gone? And there were many other shady things about Johnson that we were hearing.  He just always had a shady air to him in my opinion...and I'm sure I'll get hate mail on this opinion...but this is my blog...you can write one and say whatever YOU want to say.  :-)

And this Texas trip and Oswald?  The trip was scheduled in September of 1963...the exact motorcade route was mapped out on November 18th or so they say.
Oswald started a job at the Texas School Book Depository in October...but it was his landlord who had connections and got him that job.  He was making $1.25 an hour as a laborer...filling customers orders for books.

Didn't they say the shot came...they thought... from the 6th floor of that Depository building?  And Oswald was stopped seconds later in the 2nd floor lunch room by a security guard....he was not nervous or out of breath or carrying anything...he seemed calm and unaware of any thing happening so the security guard let him go.   So how could a person be calm that just shot the President?  But then he was seen sneaking in a theater just minutes later when the ticket taker wasn't looking...what was THAT all about....so many questions....SO SO many possibilities...

I'm just the type of person that looks at the facts and makes my own decision no matter what authorities are saying.  Sometimes you don't need a conk on the head by a conk shell...to know konk shells exist.

Well...I had something else in mind for this morning...but my boss...KIM  :-) said "No mom...this is the anniversary of the assassination of probably our most popular president...you have to talk about that"  Soooooooooooooo here it is.....

Peace and love from the canyon...I love you all gobs and gobs and thanks so much...for stopping by.
