When The Love Bug Bites: From Birth to America's Longest Married Couple on Their 81st Anniversary

Aaaaaaaaahhh true love...my favorite subject.  And a vintage love?  OH my GOODNESS!  There's just nothing that can compare to a love that lasts through the
ages with that strong bond still there between the couple and going as strong as ever right to the end of the line.

If the economy goes from bad to the pits...I don't care how bad off we may get financially...if that were to even happen...just so we keep this strong bond we've had for 50 years.  THAT's what's priceless...not our bank accounts.
This old geezer and I could live in a tent and live off the land and make it just fine...but now I'd need a big pile of firewood for winter and maybe some good dried animal hides for blankets or something...because I AM COLD NATURED TO BEAT THE BAND!!!
But other than that...we wouldn't miss a lick.  We're so tight we could give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money...because we can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'...no doubt about it.

I think we're all born with a heart full of love...don't you?  Have you ever seen a baby...that when you'd tickle it's little tummy or jiggle your finger under it's chin...didn't smile or even belly laugh?  That's love to a degree!  That little baby is loving the attention and loving you for giving it that attention...so where does the short circuit come in?  The one that sends some folks on an angry and hate filled path to the grave?

I think it's mainly due to the families some babies are born into.  And that baby's family was probably brought up in the very same kind of environment and I'd imagine so were the grandparents and great grands on back through no telling how many generations.

I was reading a story yesterday about America's longest married couple and on November 25th they will celebrate their 81st wedding anniversary.  John is 102 and Ann is 98.  Their oldest child is 80  :-)

John and Ann eloped on November 25th of 1932 because Ann's dad had promised her to a man 20 years older than she was and she didn't want to marry an 'old man'.  And besides...she had fallen in love with the young man that lived across the street from them.  She got to know him when he'd drive the neighborhood kids to school in his Ford Roadster.  He had asked her out on a date and they just hit it off from the beginning and developed a bond that has lasted almost 100 years....Life's treasures just don't get any better than that, folks!

They asked them the secret to their long and happy life and John said "the key is to always agree with your wife"...But nooooooooooo that wouldn't work.  He had to have been joking.  That may make a lot of wives happy.  But it sure wouldn't meeeeeeeeeeeee.  The last thing in the world "I'D" want...would be a hen pecked husband...always jumping every time I hollered "I wanna....."  Where would the fun and excitement come from if nothing was ever a challenge or if you were married to someone with no back bone?

I LOVE this picture of John and Ann....and the first thing I noticed was that he had his hand on her knee and she had her hand on his hand....now that's priceless.  And look at their laugh...you can just tell this is not a rarity for them...they are laughers and lovers to whatever degree they can be and they know how to make life worth living right to the end of the line....it just doesn't get any better than that.

John Betar, 102, and his wife Ann, 98, are seen at their homeI hope you have that kind of a bond with your spouse ... especially if you've been together for decades.  Because listen folks...there are 2 things money can't buy...and those things are eternal life and endless love...and if you don't have those 2 things...it doesn't matter what else you DO have....Sooner or later you're gonna find yourself up a creek without a boat and that's no where you should ever want to be.

This is John and Ann Betar of Long Island Sound.  John is 102 and still drives and Ann is 98. WHAT a STORY these two have.....And they still look as sharp as tacks...that's what a happy and lasting love will do for ya......

Peace and love from the canyon...I love you all gobs and thanks so much...for stopping by.
