It's sad to say ... but do you realize ... they are just not making grandmas like they used to?
It seems grandmas and great grandmas
are seeming younger all the time. AND that's absolutely not a bad thing. But so many old traditions are falling by the wayside because priorities and traditions are just not what they used to be.
Today you'll find most grandmas and even some great grands working out in the work place and picking up fast food for supper on the way home and
when Saturday 'does' come around ... heaven forbid they should stay home and do housework and catch up much needed chores because they've worked all week and now they need to play or shop. And forget church on Sunday because that's their only morning to sleep IN.
Monday rolls around and they've relaxed and enjoyed so much of the weekend, they barely have enough of their payday left over to even account for that week they've spent away from home and family. SO what was the use of working outside the home in the first place?
In the old days that I still love to dwell on ... things were much different. And call me crazy, but the old grandma's lifestyle below sounds much more appealing to me!
Let's take a stroll through a day in the life of a grandma from 'the good old days'.
GRANDMA'S DAY
She milked the cow's and fed them hay!
Slopped the hogs 'fore the break of day.
Carried water from the well
and built a fire, then rang the bell
She cooked breakfast and set the table
and let the horse out of the old stable.
Got the grandkids all off to school
and picked the squash while it was still cool.
She helped Pa change a wagon tire
and fed the chickens and then dressed a fryer.
She hoed the garden and made the bed
and mixed 3 pies then baked some bread.
She shelled the peas and fixed the lunch
and strung the shuck beans, bunch by bunch.
Grandma churned the butter and swept the floors
then cleaned the gutter and washed the back door.
She washed the clothes and filled lamps with oil,
canned some peaches she thought may spoil.
She gathered eggs and milked the cow again
and completely filled the stove wood bin.
She cooked the supper for paw and grandkids
and washed the dishes, the pans and lids.
She fed the dogs and wiped kids noses
and sat by the fire and mended old clothes.
She red the bible and got all to bed
and every day this life she led.
But before she slept she would always say
"OH my Goodness, wasn't this a blessed day!"
Aaaaahhh now that just made me feel all warm and fuzzy to the bone.
I don't know about you folks ... but I'm going to get done with this blog and have myself a warm and fuzzy 'old time grandma's day'
Peace and love from the canyon. I love you all gobs and thanks SO MUCH for stopping by!
