I Feel Fall is in the Air ...

I'm feeling a little antsy this morning.  I think

I can sense the very early feel of fall in the air even though it's supposed to get in the high 80's today.
I'm seeing a few orange and yellow and burgundy leaves and even though Geezer says they're that way because of the heat ... I think he's wrong!  "I" think we're in for an early fall.

That's one of the good things about being an old herb lady grandma ... we seem to sense things just a little easier and quicker than most folks.

For many years, fall was my all time favorite time of the year.  In fact, when the kids were young ... I even preferred it over summer, imagine that.

Because with fall came all kinds of fall family activities and craft shows and fall festivals.
As soon as Labor Day was behind me I was already looking ahead to Halloween which was a HUGE thing in Round Knob Canyon ... and then on to Thanksgiving and turkey and dressing and all the trimmings and to our home bursting at the seams with family and stories out the wazoo and squeals of laughter and even a little singing on occasion.

"But times have changed and years have passed" and most folks have moved over into the fast lane and so much has been lost in the shuffle.
Now we juggle in-laws and out-laws and we don't know for sure until we sit down to the Thanksgiving table ... who's coming for sure. But everybody has jobs and other sides to their families now and as families grow ... each holiday gets a little more complicated.

Just the simple act of raking leaves used to be such a big and fun ordeal in the canyon.  We'd all get out there and rake those leaves into big piles and then Geezer would let the kids run and jump and play in those big piles and then we'd gather the piles back up again and light them and sit in lawn chairs and tell stories while we watched the leaves burn and enjoyed the aroma OF fall and burning leaves ... oh my

Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back to that slower paced life?  And why can't we?  Oh Geezer and I could go back ... and really, we live a pretty slow paced and serene life.  We work hard most every day and we work long hours that start very early ... But those little rascals that we got so much enjoyment out of when they were young ... are now busy with their own lives and homes and this and that.

And after fall, comes winter ... oh geez!  And I'm hearing reports that our winter in the Heartland is going to be colder and wetter than normal ... oh great!  I love living way out in the boonies, but that also means Geezer and I will be stranded if weather is really bad.
I used to think that was such a cozy and romantic thing ... to be stranded in the canyon.  But NOW ... it's TERRIFYING ... lol   because at our age, we could need an ambulance at any time ... lol

Geezer has said ever since the ice storm in 2008 ... "Who ever passes away first ... the other one needs to be moved to town within a month"  hahahahahahaha
Well that really isn't a funny thought ... but it can get pretty scary actually being stranded in an ice storm...
Oh shoot ... and I always like to end on a warm and fuzzy note :-)

But it's Monday, August 18th and the sun is coming up and it's going to be time to punch the work clock before too long.

I hope you all have a grand and groovy day today.  Let's all go out there and make this one of the very best days we've ever had!  After all ... a good and successful day can mean many things ... so let's close with an old Edgar Guest poem ... I LOVE Edgar Guest poetry ... he was such a warm and fuzzy old soul.

                                   What Is Success?

Success is being friendly when another needs a friend;
It's in the cheery words you speak, and in the coins you lend;
Success is not alone in skill and deeds of daring great;
It's in the roses that you plant beside your garden gate.

Success is in the way you walk the paths of life each day;
It's in the little things you do and in the things you say;
Success is in the glad hello you give your fellow man;
It's in the laughter of your home and all the joys you plan.

Success is not in getting rich or rising high to fame;
It's not alone in winning goals which all men hope to claim;
It's in the man you are each day, through happiness or care;
It's in the cheery words you speak and in the smile you wear.

Success is being big of heart and clean and broad of mind;
It's being faithful to your friends, and to the stranger, kind;
It's in the children whom you love, and all they learn from you-
Success depends on character and everything you do.

Peace and love from the canyon ... I love you all gobs and thanks so much ... for stopping by!
